The Lion Monument is a famous monument in the city of Luzern in Switzerland. It commemorates the death of Swiss bodyguards during the starting days of the French revolution, in the Tuileries Palace in Paris when revolutionaries stormed the Palace. During and after the fighting, around 800-900 Swiss Guards were killed, and a smaller number of these Guards escaped with their lives.
The memorial was the proposal by a former officer of the Guards and was finally constructed almost 30 years after the deaths of these soldiers, being sculptured in 1820-1821. This is a tile that bears the image of the Lion Monument, is very popular, and can be bought from my Zazzle store (link).
